Commence work with the company before collecting the EP

Post by shutterbug » Wed, 29 May 2013 9:18 pm

Hi.
Is it possible to commence work with the new company before collecting the EP while having the IPA in hand?

The reason why I am asking this is that my last working day at my current employer is 10th July. And I have to report to the new company very next day on 11th July.

Old employer will cancel the pass on the last day and its not possible to collect the new pass on the same day.

I looked up MOM website, googled and searched the forum but coiuld not find any info on this topic. Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Depends on what it says in the IPA. If it says you can work before getting the pass issued, you are in like Flint. If it doesn't, don't. Or risk having a problem (slim) but becareful as there are some slimey employers out there, especially if you are here on an S pass or Work Permit (WP). Lot of employer will use you and then say Something screwed up, and you are sent packing. Do not start working until you get the pass issued. The IPA will tell you if you are allowed to or not.

I would say: collect your EP (or have it collected) on your first day of work. There is no obstacle to this, as soon as your previous EP gets canceled, you can get your new one, as long as you show the IPA.

Thanks for the replies. I received my IPA this morning and it confirms that i can start work with the new employer while they request the new pass.

Cheers!
