Moving to Singapore with autistic child

Post by Bvenkat » Wed, 29 May 2013 4:30 am

Hi Moms and Dads,

We are planning to move to Singapore from USA for family reasons. We have a typical 12 year old daughter and an autistic 9 year old son. My son needs a lot of support. I would like to get feedback and help on resources. Would appreciate if you could send me the names and contact info of the following types of therapists/service providers if you have had good experience with them.

Speech therapist
Occupational therapist
Psychologist
Behavior Specialist
Developmental Pediatrician
RDI Consultant
Psychopharmacologist ( for medication)

Also can you provide the names of good specialized schools which have preferably 1:1 aide support and intensive autism programs. Specials like music and art therapy, adaptive sports would be great.

Also, the names of autism support groups/forums in Singapore would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Regards
BV

there was another thread, in a similiar vein .. do some search ..

1) http://autism.org.sg/resources/links.php
2) http://autismlinks.org.sg/main/
3) http://www.autismpartnershipsg.com/index.html

For OTs, my own primary volunteer organisation has a well kitted Rehab Center, though once you are here, you may do look them up as well as others..

Autism Services

Post by Galactophagist » Wed, 05 Jun 2013 12:59 pm

Hello,

I am an SLP here in Singapore. You shall find that services available here for children with ASD are quite limited when compared to the USA. The links provided in the previous reply are a good place to start. The bottom line is that you should expect to spend a lot of $$$, spend a lot of time taking your child to various therapists, expect to spend a lot of time waiting for services, and likely have great difficulty finding a suitable school setting. that being written, I'd be happy to help in any capacity.

@Galactophagist, please stop advertising your services on this forum. Use classifieds for this. As this is not the first time, it is also the last warning and next time your account will be locked.

Hi Bvenkat,

my name is Diana. I have a son with Autism too. Last year I took my son to Dynamic (www.dynamics.com.sg). the therapist was really good. After 1 year I stop the therapy because i want to try new intervention for my son.

For the RDI therapy you can contact bimal Rai from REACH (
http://reachtherapy.com/about-reach/about-bimal-rai).

For biomedical treatment you can try Amelio Clinic at Paragon Shopping Centre, Orchard.

Hope the informations are helpful.

Please do keep intouch
Diana
