Urgent advice re Malaysia trip

Post by Steve1960 » Thu, 02 May 2013 5:28 pm

Decided to go across and stay in a hotel in JB for the weekend. HOtel booked and paid for before I found out it is election weekend. Oh well nothing I can do about that now!

Question is how to get there. I am not driving. I had it in my head that I could take an SG taxi to the border, cross over on foot and then get a Malaysian taxi the other side.

However, I am now not sure that is viable.

Help!! :-)

There is a cross-country taxi service available near Bugis MRT station. It is at Queen Street Terminal. IIRC they charge per trip and they can take you to anywhere in Johor.

Don't worry. Malaysia's GE is on Sunday. So you only need to worry about getting around during that day.

Last time I went, I took the MRT to ... Admiralty (?), then bus to the border, through immigration, back on another bus and into JB. I forget precisely how it works now, but I did it 3-4 times without a problem. My only tip is to avoid rush-hour when the queues can get veeeeeeery long!

You are right. One can take the bus to the checkpoint from Kranji/Woodlands/Marsiling MRT station. But Steve1960 will be going with his family and I think this weekend will be a crunch one, considering the impending exodus as big as Lunar New Year's.

Trip went very well. Picked up the taxi at Queen Street, no queue at border control in either direction, daughter had a fabulous time at Lego Land and we bought her a load of cheap clothes (no point in buying expensive when she is growing so fast).

Thanks for your advice and yes the bus was not a great option with 2 year old, heavy suitcase, stroller and various other bags!!
