Am i eligible?

Post by letstalk » Tue, 23 Apr 2013 11:59 pm

Hi I'm 30 f, Malaysian Chinese, recently got my PR couple of months before. I earn a basic $3500. Profession nurse. Been working here for 5 yrs. Married a foreigner(not PR). He don't wanna settle down in spore as he's self employed overseas and don't really think finding a job in spore not that worth for him. Have a beautiful baby gal.

I want to continue my contribution to Singapore economy and raise my kids here safely and better educated and live a peaceful and safe life here. I want to apply for Singapore citizenship. I don't know am i qualified for it now OR when will i qualify for it. OR wot will make me qualify for it...? Very vague info on the ICA website. Any helping hands out there? Invaluable experiences are appreciated!

Thank you,

Letstalk

Wait 2 years after PR then apply on your own with your kids. I don't see it as a problem. I can understand your husband's reluctance. You may be asked why he didn't apply.

It may well be a stumbling block as well. As Singapore is still theoretically a patriarchal society, the mindset has always been that wife will always follow the spouse. Therefore, if the Husband will not apply, then they could see it as a zero sum gain for Singapore were the wife & kids get the subsidies, education but eventually will leave to follow the husband. Nothing gained. Other than that, you may have a chance, but I wouldn't hold your breath. At least from my point of view.
