well, speaking of NETS, i experience few times that the driver will swipe my ATM card and after that informed me that the machine not functioning, hence he will need cash, and like SMS said, they seem to know where the nearest ATM machine is. This also happened with the corporate card (the one time use type), they swipe and said "Oh, your card is invalid!"

well, taking me to the nearest ATM is fine with me .. but some guys will still run the meter ..

that is not fair .. + some drivers know if the system is not reachable - they move a bit - for better coverage / connectivity ..
If somebody says machine not working, you have all the right to tell them to call Comfort and fix it, than wasting my time driving around looking for an ATM !!!

With a charge of between 2% and 3% for using cards to pay is the reason why they don't want to accept cards!

I don't know if the driver absorbs the cost or the company

By right, the company should absorb, but .. in Singapore .. it maybe passed down to the driver

I had one today that took me the longest way ever to school, actually circling a block, adding $4 to the usual fare. And one on the way back who was on shift change to Yishun but picked me up anyway and was so busy making sure my youngest was strapped in properly before he moved off he forgot to turn his meter on and tried to charge me about a third of the going rate.

Did you complain to the first one?
When this happens I quote the usual fare, some cabbies offer to reduce it.
Unfortunately, this is one of those things where you have to fake anger to get anywhere. But I'd rather that than be duped by someone who thinks he's pulling a fast one on a foreigner.

I thought it was quite funny. He was very gruff and would have just pretended he didn't understand me. On the journey there are three points where you can turn left or right and both will get you there but a lot slower. Each time he took the slow one and the circling the block was just genius. Stupid foreigner, can't read signs. I'm surprised he didn't attempt to reverse down the school drive and do that twice.

Just to share an insight about taxi drivers.
Ever wonder why taxi drivers like to speed and brake so much? Sometimes, taxi drivers will speed all the way to the red traffic light before stopping. This is because they get paid extra while waiting. This technique enables them to earn a little bit more.
SMS, I don't think there is a Westin Stamford Swisshotel. You are either going to Swissotel the Stamford or Swissotel Merchant Court. You need a time machine to go to The Westin Stamford.

I'm pretty well aware of that fact. However when I told the taxi driver to take me to the Swisshotel, he didn't have a clue and had never heard of it. That's why I had to revert to the former name of the hotel.
Do you know where the Landmark Village Hotel is? If not, how about the Golden Landmark Hotel. See what I mean. Taxi drivers do not know the Landmark Village Hotel either.

my 2 cents ??
not 7K .. more like 4K to 5K without sweating much ..
Of course they forget to tell you their
condo and car lease commitments which take off a large portion of the earning ..
