Seems ok so far.... she obviously really was an indoor cat in her kittenhood.
I've brushed her down which she loves and she hasn't jumped on any counters or even climbed on a couch. Seems to like lying on an expensive afghan rug.

OC Status Report:
1. Cat is probably a bit older than we thought. I'd say she's around the decade mark looking at her teeth and build.
2. Cat is settled in - clearly not interested in leaving. She is readjusting to no longer being nocturnal (lower ranked stray or abandoned cats often turn nocturnal - sleeping in the day and scavenging at night).
3. She's worked out I'm the Alpha male and my wife is the beta female and so far our children seem to be 'prey' or Omega members of the pack. (If they run past her three times - she snags their legs!).
4. She's not a big eater but big - which makes me things she's probably got intestinal parasites up to the brim or maybe something else is up - I bought some worm medicine and a collar in Perth and I'll de-worm her in a few more days. I don't think she's got many years left actually but seems happy enough.
5. She was clearly well trained in her kitten hood. She uses the tray properly and doesn't jump on seats or couches. She also doesn't seem interested in begging for human food.
6, My wife - who claims she is allergic to cats - has not reacted. I'm pretty certain my wife would react to a long haired cat though.
7. She's affectionate enough and a welcome addition to the household for as long as she stays or lives forgoing anything radical...
Free cat = win.

my wife and her friend's family will be happy to know she's finally found a home she deserves.
she's a nice cat. i'd have taken her for myself if my future in singapore wasn't so uncertain.
i do recall 2 years ago - that cat ate a lot and was really really greedy. she'd do figure 8s and meow non-stop for more AFTER she's had a good serving of kibble.

All the cats my in-laws have had (one after another) have simply been strays from around their block that they've taken in.
I'd recommend a flea-collar and worming pills ASAP. It is likely to have both...

It's not that the cat is fat, it is (IMO) likely because it is hosting a major dose of worms!
p.s. Mind you that said it seems to have a double-chin (neck roll)

Unfortunately, that's not always true with the female ginger-haired human species!
