Apply directly or through recruitment agency?

I would say that in Singapore applying through recruitment agencies only will do the thing just fine. Recruitment agents are not real estate agents. You can deal with them.

I hate recruitment agents. All they know is to do a CTRL F for keywords in a resume. Sometimes you may be a perfect fit but because you have used a different term in your resume, you may not match their filter criteria.

The world would have been a better place if the hiring manager could directly search for candidates through sites like linked in and now I really support linked in for that very reason.
