Just a little! :-O

I visited the local specialist drinks shop today and picked up a few beers. They stock perhaps 250 lines. Since I'll never get to try them all, my primary filter is a bench-mark of 'must cost more than euro1.00 (S$1.60), for say a 500ml bottle'. It is not that easy to find beer that expensive!

I trialled out 4 Czech beers last week. This week I'm trialling four German ones.

Tonight I'm having a beer 'Kloster Stoff' a 5.9% Marzenbier from the Bavarian Alps... 330ml of heaven for euro1.15 (S$1.85).

Lordy I'm going to miss the beers available in this city... <sigh>

Thank you! Not exactly a convenient location, but - as my people elegantly put it - "a hundred miles is not much of a detour for a rabid dog"...

Awwwww... A hundred weizens, a hundred pilsners, forty nine random euro lagers - and a dusty bottle of Chimay in the back?

Ooh, where's the brewdog on tap? Sign me up!

I think good things are coming for the beer scene in Singapore - there are a handful of local craft breweries here, and craft beer shops, but in both cases you'll find yourself paying a pretty penny for it.

Brewerkz has the king of all beers, the Dogfish Head 90 minute Indian Pale Ale, delicious and bitter and glorious, along with the brewerkz brews (and others) which aren't bad either, but that's still like $10-$15 a pint/bottle. The Pump Room also has good in-house brews, just across the river in Clarke Quay. And there's also Paulaner Brauhaus, those Germans don't mess. Beercraft has opened in Albert Court, and I think last week I saw a Punk IPA on tap for like $6/pint, and I don't think it gets better than that frankly.

As for coffee, I swear by Toby's Estate - its main branch is at Robertson Quay, but I think a fair few places stock it now. You'd have to go somewhere that knows how to brew it well, though, Fine Palate Cafe is one of the handful of places I've encountered that knows what real coffee tastes like and does Toby's brew justice.

The Old Empire Gastrobar at Valleypoint Mall has Punk IPA and one other on tap. I believe there is somewhere opening up in Katong that plans to have Brewdog on tap too, will get back to you when I find out more about that.
