We are relocating to Singapore end of May and as I will be working in Ang Mo Kio, we are thinking about settling down in the area around Newton/Novena.
I have lived in Singapore before but not in that area of the city but out West in Jurong.
We are ideally looking for a 2-3 bedroom apartment in a condo that are not too old/run down (the newer the better). We would love to have a big (relative) kitchen and a balcony. Condo to have pool and a good gym. We like lots of light to flow into the unit. Location close to any of the two MRT stations Novena/Newton.
I have had a look at the property pages, like . and others but it is really hard to get an impression of the place by looking at pictures, so I would be grateful if anyone could give their honest opinion, good or bad, on places where they have lived.
Our budget is limited as we are looking at spending a max of S$ 4,000 a month on rental.
We will of course get an agent when we get there to help us find a place but all advice we can receive up front will be highly appreciated.

Your budget is very tight given your criteria, specifically the area.
I think you can do $3,500+ maybe 1km away from Novena in an older unit, and 1km away closer to Balestier.
Have you considered the condos near Toa Payoh? Only one stop north of Novena. Not a huge selection, but "Oleander" is there and should work for you. JR8 will tell you about it.

I have considered that and it might be what we end up doing, if we cannot find anything in the Newton/Novena area.
I had a look at the Oleander condo and it's not half bad. Anyone else have some suggestions?
