What is a common, and false, generalization about expat men is that they are all crazy for asian women. This not true, only about half of the men are crazy for the LBFM and the others prefer the Whiskey Tango or, heaven forbid, non 197A compliant other type.

RATM. Not forever, I think that applies to very few. IMHO being an expat is a career stepping-stone, for most, but 99% will end up going home, after 3 -max. 10 years away.

Managing Australians is like... (analogy fail).

Their egalitarian crap really gets in the way.

I'll give you a real life example;

Me (Mgr): You need to redo that please.
Employee (Workman): Who are you to tell me what to do mate?
Me: 1. I'm not your "mate", 2. Because in the company org chart, put on that wall over there, I'm your direct supervisor.
Employee: Phuck off you kunt, we'll see what the union has to say about that!

Saying that, Aussies are actually far more productive work wise than your average Sinky.

Aussies are generally easy going in the workplace, very jovial and tend to take their work very seriously and will put in their quota of shift if they had to.
I've been working all my professional life around Australians with 2 different companies.
Thursday 3pm : Beer O clock mate, lets grab a few cold un's and get back straight into it ay?
me: lets do it! *shakes head*

Not always but I like the story.... been there a lot too. I and another Aussie are the only two Asiapac reps for a large US Oilfield company and they really like us (as Aussies) so it swings both ways. It's just that in Australia... you're not really meant to excel and be a tall poppy.

I haven't found many snobs in Singapore, certainly not enough to warrant avoiding living in Singapore!
