Hate to smash your illusion. But SG was founded by the British; and you're the foreigner.

Culture shock? Quite the reverse: We're in charge here = hand in glove.

Grew up with a picture of an American neighbourhood... ? What on earth are you on about??
earthfriendly wrote: A bit like the gay issue right? Growing up, when you look at a picture of the perfect family, it is always a husband and wife, not two same sex couple. It is not easy to accept a new reality. Do you want continue in your misery of not being able to adapt or do you want to embrace humanity and open your heart to other people who are different from you. The moment I choose humanity, I know I have to apply it across the board. I can't cherry pick  .
My wife is away this weekend staying with a 'gay couple'. But you're preaching 'an ideal' to which you are a stranger aren't you'; i.e. you have no gay friends.

Oh, I wouldn't consider them giving the whole news. They're just as bad or worse in their own way...

Apologies: this thing morphs the most subtle and kind humour, into gibberish.

I mean well.

I actually don't think how I feel and what I think is all that important. I am but only one of the many tiny minicuos creature that share this earth. I bring up my experience if I believe it is useful to the situation. I have beat this to death, time to look for a new example.

I had 2 gay friends from SG Junior College and would take us girls to the gay bar at Far East Plaza but we had to wait outside, since we did not fit the bill. Travelled in Korea with this handsome guy, a model for a major Japanese Fashion house, my ex-hairdresser whom I was going to take Ikebana flower arrangement with but I had to move on, a very close friend's brother and I would hear about the lover's tiff. And the females who tried to hit on me. You just jolt my memories on all the wonderful gay friends that I had made over the years and quite a few fall off the radar.

You make a lot of assumptions. And your know-it-all attitude and arrogant intellectualism. Perhaps it is your chatting style. Over time I don't feel incline to respond to these kind of posts. I mostly respond out of courtesy, you know.

Reword, it is not that important that the world must listen to what I want to say, how I feel and what I think. For the most part.

I did go to Gerrys Grill last night though and it was very good.
Better than their website then! I had a look at it and it is one of those 'so fancy, you can hardly get it to work at all' lay-outs.

[At least that was my experience using Opera as my browser].
should check out their pork sisig. :)

I know Singapore is a drug free country but some of the posts I've been reading so far sound like a hallucinogen induced incoherent ramble.
To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late

Singapore is definitely not drug free. I've witnessed transactions in the open street in a few areas.

You just about blew any street cred you had built up here with that silly throwaway line.
This line did it for me:
ariyo wrote:Its been a long day and i can see all the concerns by our expat friends.
Which gives me opportunity to paraphrase War Child again in this forum, that if what he calls this conversation "concerns", well that's just missing the point. It's the locals who should be concerned long term.

But I haven't made it through the whole thread yet and could change my opinion, meanwhile he seems quite articulate and has some points to consider.

Ok made it to the end of the thread. Started out with some worthy conversation then kinda imploded. There's surely more to be said, if peacefully. I'm sure ariyo and ef have more to contribute.

....or would that just be rearranging the Titanic's deck chairs, seeing how there's reasons all around not to stay much longer.....
