Post by Sweety_hope » Wed, 06 Mar 2013 12:28 am

Hi... I just registered on this forum. I just want to ask : What will be the nationality of the child born in singapore with singaporean father and foreigner mother. Is it still singaporean although the parents are not yet married?

Depends on whether the Father claims paternity or not.

If parent not married, follow mother nationality.

I read a case before, child born in Singapore but (father Singaporean / mother Malaysian) parents are not married.
Then both parents went to jail due to drug taking.
When the mother release from jail, child and the mother sent back to Malaysia together. Even the father side relative willing to take care the baby also cannot. And the mother also agree to had the father side relative to take care of the baby.

It depends where the child is born . If it is in Singapore, the child is SGer
If overseas the child is mother citizen but has the choice to become Sger if father claim paternity
