zzm, I typed exactly the same thing yesterday, but deleted it, only because for some reason, I just didn't feel like entering the fracas. Also the southern states where there are lots of "trailer parks". *cringe* Commonly referred to as "trailer trash" but a huge chunk of America, no less. Sometimes, lots of fun in trailer parks though.

SOME PEOPLE TRY TO TURN BACK THEIR ODOMETERS. NOT ME. I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHY I LOOK THIS WAY. I'VE TRAVELED A LONG WAY, AND SOME OF THE ROADS WEREN'T PAVED. ~ Will Rogers
Enslaved should turn off Google Safe Search, search for "Folsom Street Fair", and click on "Images". Yes Enslaved, this is in the middle of a major US City (San Fran), just outside of the central business district, in the middle of the day. Anyone can go.sundaymorningstaple wrote:zzm, I typed exactly the same thing yesterday, but deleted it, only because for some reason, I just didn't feel like entering the fracas. Note that clicking on any of those images somewhere like the fine Islamic Republic of Iran may get you arrested, or worse (Even 377A in Singapore!). Come back after and tell me about conservative western countries after you take a look.
Zzm and Raj, you miss my point. (Let me say this in bracket: If we search in google to prove our point we will be successful, as certainly you will get news item or some blog-posts).
My point is: accepted customs differ, and it is not only between Iran and Singapore, it exists even between Singapore and west. I am not talking about Siloso Beach party of Singapore, likewise there is no need to consider the photos you refer to, which is based on an event. but I talk about regular life. I am talking about the regular working attire. It differs between Iran-Singapore, and West-Singapore. By saying this, I mean there can't be a reference for an universal judgement. Here I wonder, how a religious fanaticism or pro-gay attitude or judging come from what I said.
Raj, you said, "well girls running around partially naked, fully naked, naked , revealing, semi revealing and all the other possible ways of hiding or showing flesh are examples of individual expression". But this is not accepted even in the west. That is what I point out. For flashing you will get arrested. You have the attitude of approving it, but even the liberal societies don't accept it. In west, flashing or full-nakedness is unacceptable. In Iran, partial nakedness not acceptable. Just like how west can't justify its attitude towards nudity on road, one can't try to make sense out of the Iran culture. Cultures differ. That is how the world exhibits its dynamism.

lynnngsl,
Where is your boyfriend doing his masters? Is it Sunway? I only ask as I've know several from the middle east who have come to Malaysia to go to Sunway. For some reason, each of them who have tried to come to Singapore with those credentials are rejected. I don't know if it's only those who have come on the board, or if it's a larger or more widespread problem, but it could be a stumbling block if he's in Sunway. Only anecdotal evidence I have. Nothing to the contrary.

'Flashing' is akin to visual sexual assault, uninvited, and unwanted. It is illegal.enslaved wrote:In west, flashing or full-nakedness is unacceptable.
Full nakedness however is perfectly acceptable in many places in the west. For example nudists' beaches, where I imagine it is unacceptable to be clothed.
In the main city park not a mile from where I live 'In the west', there is an area of maybe 1 hectare that is frequented solely by fully naked gay men. It is no secret at all, on the contrary, it is considered a part of the 'local colour'.

I don't see why how people dress is any of my concern. But I do wonder why it seems to pre-occupy you rather. Refer to* as you seem to be shifting the goalposts.enslaved wrote: I said it by "western standards" where you don't find a girl going to work in babydoll dresses, don't you agree?
And if I worked in an office where girls chose to wear 'babydoll dresses' then if anything I would probably rather enjoy that.
Do keep in mind that short hemlines were pioneered in western fashion, and as one might expect some girls do wear them to work.
You're losing me. A dress is not lingerie. Are you saying that SGn girls are on the MRT dressed in just their underwear? And why does it bother you so what other people wear?enslaved wrote:You will find babydoll dress in the category of lingerie, can you find that out from some pornsite?
So you're saying that you dislike them on the MRT, but you like them when said wearers stand next to you on the street?enslaved wrote:Editing to add this: Like babydoll dresses when someone stand nearby me wearing itthat is one of the attractive things in Singapore I find.

Your apparent incoherence reminds me of Chinese lady of mature years that used to frequent this forum, and rail on a regular basis about people's right to eat shark's fin.

'Lastly, one should not judge any country based on their culture with reference to your culture. For example, the Singapore MRT users, working women's dresses are far beyond the margins of obscenity and pornography even by western/european/american standards. If we can just learn to be like the others of any country, the life will be great. So you can simply go to Iran. After all, Iran is not like India (my country) or philippines, where corruption and insanity is very high, and you can't be honest if you want to live like others in these countries.'
