Ha sorry for the late response, there is a Grindcore band playing at Baybeats happening at Esplanade Powerhouse stage

Wala Wala for Shirlyn and the UnXpected (they only SOMETIMES play metal when there are enough fans) btw i am celebrating my bday on 6th July there

and also, since I'm at this and posted on few threads already, I'm gathering some metalheads for a get together party, bring some beers, food, and then good music for sharing at my condo.

The thread is here: http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/ftopic ... highlight=

and the info in case u are lazy...
It's a potluck, so just buy and bring some beers and some food to share, and make it after 7.30pm tomorrow 28th June 2013.

The address is:

Waterfront Waves (this is a condo)
760 Bedok Reservoir Road
Singapore 479245
BBQ Pit 2

Nearest MRT is Tampines or Bedok MRT.
From Bedok Bus Interchange, take buses 228 or 66
From Tampines Interchange, take busses 22 or 65

My name is Cynthia, just tell the condo guards there my name and direct you guys to BBQ Pit 2.
PM me for my phone number if you need.

Anyone seeing this, feel free to crash even if you are not a metal fan, just come and mingle with some cool people!

There is a band called The Heritage who plays at JJs regularly. I hear that they cover awesome rock songs from the good old days.
JJ's is in the Duxton Hill area and is very interesting bar .......

Its a very strange combo of an old school rock bar and a girl bar.

The band is awesome, at least the one on Saturday nights, I dont know if its the same every night.

Its gets very busy with lots of Oldies so get there early to get a table.

define girl bar? :D

Resurrecting an old-ish thread, I know, but I guess it's true there aren't any real "rock" places? Let's forget about the Hard Rock cafe.

Any suggestions? The more Metal, the better.

The bands at OT plays a bit of metal and old school rock and grunge: Led Zep, Dio, Metallica, Linkin Park, Nirvana, Foo Fighters etc that kinda stuff. They usually play stuff that you ask them to, rather friendly folks.

That said I've not managed to get them to play death/black metal nor any of the thrash metal stuff.

It's all girly bars though, so may not be suited for everyone, although I have had female friends follow me there. Just have to steel yourself for some harrassment from the working girls.

If you want real metal, you're going to have to wait for gigs, and there's a high chance of cancellations. Sucks to be a metalhead here.

I can vouch for Ipanema. I know the band that plays there and they are decent, in terms of song selection and quality. Something I don't mind coming back for.

The last time I went to Naughty Girls, the band played some key rock songs but the singers are horrible. Pole dancers were bad (only ONE decent pole dancer while the others merely clutched and gyrated around the pole).

Have not tried Moonshine. Hope it is as good as what you said when I go there.

Has anyone tried Brix? The band is probably the best I've seen in Orchard, although they are more into pop and R&B. The quality of the band is my only consolation.

The band varies at Brix a lot. The few times (very few, i swear   ) I've gone, there was the typical filipino cover band only once. One time it was a really nice Jazz/soft R&B singer, and another time it was just a normal DJ. They're all usually pretty good though.

20 years ago when it was called Brannigans.

Used to be a real meat market in there. Back then the entrance was down a stairwell right in front of the building, on Scotts Road. I imagine the hotel (Hyatt?) decided having queues of lycra clad ladies of dubious appearance out front each night didn't do their image much good. Having to enter via the inside of the hotel now, maybe the clientele have cleaned up too?

The music then was the usual PH crooner band... forgettable.

p.s the trouble with metal etc is there is little market for it. Or, put another way, little market who are willing to make it profitable for a venue to host it.

A relative of mine is a full on axe-man, he can do the whole range from playing with his teeth (a la Hendrix) to playing the gittar behind his head (ditto), behind his back and so on, pretty awesome when he's in full flow! The market for metal is not the market that's going to go to a bar at Clarke Quay (or similar) and without a blink spend $100+/head on drinks and snacks.

So, he and his band play what they refer to as 'rock and roll', cover versions. Nothing too angry or challenging, nothing to loud, that's what the paying majority here want.

I didn't say they're good, just that they cover those songs. My judgement is usually impaired by the time i get there. :)

Still is, no entrance inside the hotel. Now they have queues of blonde implanted Russian, Ukranian, and other Eastern European women waiting for taxis outside. They have the PH cover band like all BMD Girl bars, but other bands and DJs also. The bands at Ipanema are also the usual PH cover bands. I suspect that's what we're referring to for metal. Most of them usually do a good Sweet Child of Mine, by my 4th or 5th drink.
