ADVICE ME PLZZZ

Post by kalyan » Fri, 08 Feb 2013 12:05 am

HI I AM AN S PASS HOLDER . MY WIFE CAME TO SINGAPORE ON SOCIAL VISIT PASS ON 29 DEC . HER VISA ISSUE DATE IS ON 16/12/12 MULTIPLE ENTRY VISA , AND VALID UNTIL 17/02/13. WE ARE FROM INDIA

ON 22/01/13 WE REQUEST FOR EXTENSION , THEY EXTENDED UP TO 27/02/13.

NOW FOR THIS CNY LONG WEKEND WE BOTH PLAN TO VISIT BIN TAM ISLANDS , FROM 10/02/13 TO BACK TO SINGAPORE ON 14/02/13

SO ONCE WE RE ENTRY TO SINGAPORE WILL THEY GIVE HER ANOTHER 30 DAY VALID VISIT PASS ?

BECAUSE AS MY COMPANY APPLY FOR HER DP AT END OF THIS MONTH . SHE MAY GET HER DP BY MIDDLE OF MARCH .

SO IF WE EXIT AND ENTRY LIKE AS I MENTION ABOVE WILL ICA GIVE HER ANOTHER 30 DAY VALID VISA OR AT LEAST 2 WEEK VISA ?

PLZ CAN ANYONE ADVICE ME ON THIS ISSUE AND KINDLY HELP ME TO OVER COME THIS MATTER

TNX AND REGARDS

My somewhat informed but inexpert opinion is that if I were you I'd take the DP application information/copies with you on holiday.

The reason being your wife might be flagged up (on re-entry) as 'border-hopping' to extend her stay.

If you can show that you have applied for a DP, and are merely awaiting that outcome, and proceeding with goodwill, and meanwhile getting on with 'life as normal' [i.e. vacation weekend], then I would hope that they would extend some understanding.

Kalyan, yes your wife will be allowed to stay for 30 day even if she tries to enter 1 day before the expiry of visa, provided she has not misused the SVP in the past.

Also the 30 days is the most probable case. There is no hard and fast rule that she will definitely get 30 days. If the immigration officer got up on the wrong side of the bed she may get shorter duration also like 15 days, but that is unlikely.

Don't want to throw cold water on anybody's plans but I would have to agree with JR8 on this one as you have already been given a 10 day extension so then you go "overseas" for as couple of days and then expect to get another 30 day visa? If ICA didn't suspect something they would have given you a 30 day extension when it was extended the first time, instead of only 10 days (from 17 Feb - SVP expiry date to 27 Feb). I'd also make sure you had all your paperwork with you just to be on the safe side. I've seen immigration give only 3 days passes for border hoppers to give them time to gather they "stuff" together and leave the country. Forewarned is forearmed.

If I were you, I would cancel the "Bin Tam" trip and stay put in Singapore until her visa application is approved / filed. "Trip to nearby country" for extending visa is probably the most abused system here in Singapore. You may have to produce a valid return ticket for her to India (which I presume you dont have) if the immigration officer ask.

And if the whole reason for Bintan trip is visa extension, then get a return ticket and be prepared for the worst case of "following the ticket".
Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.

Based on your post, I assume that your company has not applied DP for her yet. Also, considering the fact that the SVP has been already extended once, in my view she will not be granted a 30 days SVP again when she re-enters. Most likely she may get a SVP for 14 days or less? The reason is because she has already had a SVP for 2 months. This is just my 2 cents and it may be wrong.

It would have been a different case, if the DP application has been already made and is in progress.

Good Luck !

kalyan, there's some wise advice you've been given above; you'd be well advised  to take it on board. The other point I would make, just be sure you aren't under any illusions, is that there is no guarantee whatsoever of the DP being granted. Some people who are new to Singapore assume that 'eligible to apply' equates to 'will definitely be granted'. Nothing could be further from the truth and given the current socio-political climate here, you would be well advised to have a back-up plan in case the DP is refused. As with the other posters above, I'm not trying to be overly negative, just wanting to make sure you understand how things work here.
Be careful what you wish for

+1 says me, from experience .. stay put than give reasons to ICA ..

unless Bin Tam is life threatening ..

And a former colleague's DP took more than 2 months for approval ... just FYI

and why not apply NOW, than end of the month ? Any auspicious timing there ?
