Rude condo security- what to do ?

Not sure if any of you ever came across the situation where the security guards at the condo behave in rude/arrogant ways ?

There were 2 incidents in the last 3 weeks that got me really mad. One of the guards even started abusing my visitor and when I had to intervene- the guard told that he does not care..do whatever you can and he showed his ID to me so that I may complain accurately...Shall I complain to the management or to the company that employs such individuals ? Does that make any difference ? I do not want him loose his job or anything, but they better get a chance to rectify the behaviour.[/b]

that's definitely unusual and I would definitely talk to Management

Never heard of anything similar before as guards usually keep a low profile I believe apart from the noise complaints when they have to get people to stop music/parties I guess

Hope it gets better !

Complain to the management. This is them who hire the company. If this is not an incident he should be fired.

It probably helps a lot but it is definitely not "only".

In this case, both the guard and the myself are from the sub-continent..may be that is the reason !

I've often thought that as soon as you give someone a uniform, hat, badge, or worse still, a whistle, all that perceived power will often go to their head.

The guards at our condo are quite friendly (AFAIK to everyone), although we do have one guy who seems to take his job just a little too seriously. I've nicknamed him Mr McKay, after a character in an old British sitcom:

what is with these guards...unfortunately we had some incident last night with the guard. Since we walk our dog in the evening and we have a neighbor who has a large dog which barks all the time. when we passed by, the dog barked extra loudly last night and since it was near the guard house the guard came out holding a stick. our dog was already frightened from the large dog and even more frightened when she saw the guard holding a stick.

so we couldn't get her inside the compound. And the guard took his time standing there eyeing us like we were robbers even though we live there!

Interesting comment. Is it actually something you 'have to do' ?

I mean, I wave 'hi' to them and I'm always very polite but I'm not sure I would want to give them money and I can't quite imagine all the people in my condo giving money? Since it's the season, I'd rather know?

It is customary to give token ang bao to those who take care of you all year, yes. It doesn't have to be much but it's the thought. When my wife was working in the Golf Courses (both Seletar and SICC) every years she would receive 50 or more "red packets" which often would total to $1G or more. She was the one who did the booking for the golfing flights and was also their announcer at competitions, and so forth. The member appreciated her little courtesies throughout the year so it's their way of thanking her.

^^^ +1

I will usually distribute hong baos among security guards, the auntie that empties my bin at the office, a couple of cleaners I see often, the shuttle driver, etc. It's not a big amount, and it acknowledges their often neglected presence and efforts.

The crack security team at our building is typically either asleep or assiduously playing Candy Crusher on their handhelds so as not to make eye contact with any of the residents. I think I may pass on the ang baos this year….

They just might play candy crush when a shady guy rolls through on a holiday weekend as well. Could result in a housebreaking. Just sayin'

They DO have pretty good memories even though they appear to be either asleep or zoned out.
