Looking to start a playgroup at East Coast

Post by bambusoides » Fri, 18 Jan 2013 2:51 pm

Hi

I am looking to start a playgroup in East Coast. Venue to be confirmed. Charging $200 per month from Mondays to Fridays. For age 15 mths - 3 years old from 9am to 11am. Free and easy play - there will be toys and books to entertain the little ones.

Just like to know whether you know of anyone who can come in on a weekly basis to do a music play or gym for the little ones and if you think this idea will fly with both mummies and kiddos in the area.

Any comments or contribution is greatly appreciated!

I believe that you have to be licensed for such a business. I say this as I know of someone who ran an 'informal' playgroup from their home and she was busted by the authorities.

Presumably you'd need to run it as a company as well, and have insurance.

if you do not run beyond the specified number of children, you do not need to be licensed.

suffice to say, the number is countable on the fingers of two hands. (i can't remember the number, but my friend's wife has been doing this for the past 5+ years and is stopping when her last kid turns 6)

she makes good money from it (i think it's a "half day" thing) but always had to turn away moms coz she's full. her original intention was to have a play group for her own kids in her own home and cover costs.
