Additional Condo Key Cards

Post by sturoy » Thu, 17 Jan 2013 12:54 pm

Hi,

I need to get an additional couple of access key cards for my condo, as my parents are coming to visit for a couple of weeks. Howver, the management office require permission from the landlord, and the landlord is refusing to give it due to "bad experience with previous tenant".

Do I have any way of forcing the landlord to give permission? Does it, for instance, breach the contract which states that the landlord must give quiet enjoyment to the tenant ("tenant shall peaceably hold and enjoy the premises without interruption from the landlord")?

I have tried getting the card copied (at a couple of different places), but whilst the copies work at the condo door, they do not work in the communal areas (e.g. side gate, lift). I think that as it is a brand new condo, they have changed the software?

Any advice would be very helpful.

Thanks

1. Offer to pay the fee for the LL - it's often a lot ($200 per card). Also offer to return the spare cards to LL when your parents leave.
2. If LL keeps refusing ask your neighbor if you can borrow a card (with a deposit).
3. Finally ask/beg the MA to allow you to borrow card for your parents visit (with a deposit).

The problems with lost access cards is the MC often have to replace the entire system when there are too many cards lost or unaccounted for which is a very high expense ($10,000).

I see this is an old post, but others may be facing a similar issue.

There are services in Singapore which can duplicate condo and other types of access cards - just do an online search for duplication of condo cards or similar. Most types can be duplicated, though there are some that use encryption. The cost is only about $30.

Sounds borderline illegal. Can you just imagine the knowledge in the wrong hands?

Those copy cards often don't work for every access point.
