Differential treatment in AWS/Bonus payouts

Post by sam24x7 » Fri, 04 Jan 2013 9:43 am

Just wondering if this practice of excluding pass holders with "certain nationalities" from AWS/Bonus payouts while obliging locals and "certain other" pass holders is widespread, or my employer is a special exception?

It figures that diversity doesn't necessarily imply equality.

IME - yes it's common. Check your contract though - my last employer was not paying me AWS until I informed them that the as a PR and without these being excluded this may be against the normal 'custom' in Singapore (pay wise PR's are often paid AWS in practice). Unless specficially excluded or the AWS would breach your salary level in contract if you're a PR or local I would argue for it.

Actually, unless AWS is specifically written into your contract, it's optional for the employer to pay it. The only people who can claim AWS without it in the contract is with Union shops where the Union contracts customarily included AWS in the contract negotiations. In fact, since 1997 fewer and fewer companies are paying AWS.

Can you define 'AWS' for the rest of us? :D Is that 'additional wage supplement', the 13th month? Or is it something else?

As a PEP holder, my contract specifically spelled out that I received 13th month.
