Furnished or not? Cellar?

Post by magnuslu » Sat, 18 Dec 2004 4:09 pm

Hi!

I am about to prepare my relocation to Singapre. When I look at various websites for choice of accomodation, I see that most of the times, the apartments (condos) are rented 'furnished'. From the few pictures I've seen, it seems to be really a bare minimum.

Is it possible to ask the landlord to remove the furniture in exchange for a lower rental rate?

Having said that, I would expect the apartment to include things like fridge, freezer, stove, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. Thus I would bring dining room, bedroom and home office furniture along.

I also seem to understand that a cellar is not available. Where do people store stuff they only need occasionally?

An alternative would be to leave some stuff in storage in my country of origin, but that would soon become more expensive than transporting it down to Singapore.

You should be able to request furniture removed and secure a lower lease. If your monthly rental is S$3000, then i'd say removing S$300 off that would be quite reasonable.
