Right. This was Eden Square aka ‘Marines Statue Square’. The National theatre is the white building ahead/right. On which steps certainly 2 monks self-immolated in protest at the regime and war (ref: . The Marines Statue, which was torn down during the fall, was on the pedestrianised island directly in front of this theatre).
The Continental is [go to visually] 1) middle of the shot in the distance, 2) immediately to the left (north) 3) hence just out of sight. The correspondent's bar/cafe was directly opposite the Continental on the near-side of this side-street (Dong Khoi) at that point. I was told long ago that at that time they styled it ‘The Continental Shelf’... hehehe...
* A classic novel to get a feel for that hotel/bar/square at that time c. mid-50s between the French and Americans, is The Quiet American by Graham Greene. My fav author (honestly), and certainly in my top-10 novels of all time. Alongside Our Man in Havana, and The Honorary Consul by the same author.

Yah, IIRC that was bungee-jumping over the Thames in London. Next to the eponymous Battersea power station (cultural side references to Pink Floyd etc].zzm9980 wrote:Bungee jumping?
Got to be one of the more valuable derelict plots in the world that one...

My friend just moved into a flat new right next to this place. Quite nice looking, but makes the average Singapore flat look palatial in size and a bargain in price.JR8 wrote:Yah, IIRC that was bungee-jumping over the Thames in London. Not my kinda location of choice, but hey there you go. Jeffrey Archer lived or used to live in that building.

Lobster eggs benedict done home-style [i.e. at home hehe].
[This is why all da laydeez have a passion for da maestro JR8 yah. You a master in the kitchen, you're sure gonna be a wizard in the bedroom, am I right? hehehe

p.s. from a technical viewpoint that's a quite seriously complex dish for one cook, on one stove, to dish up right. Four 'temperamental' elements that have to be brought together successfully, and at the same time.
- and on a halogen hob which totally freakin sucks for any even half-arsed cook.
