Where to live

Post by househunting » Tue, 06 Apr 2004 8:54 pm

Hi,

My boyfriend has been offered a contract in Singapore and we will be moving there in June. We are on a local contract so we need to find our own housing. What is a good district to live? (No kids, 30ys old, coming from bustling Amsterdam, definitely wouldn't say no to swimming pool in the garden). Any ideas?

Hi househunting,

The popular dsitricts are districts 09,10,11 (orchard, River valley and Bukit Timah). And on the eastern side of Singapore which are districts 15 and 16.

You could let me know your requirements by emailing me at [email protected] will try my best to cater something to your needs. :D

Think the former was an agent

But she is right about the districts, the East Coast is nice but you should have a car though (which is VERY expensive!).

The question is also house versus condo - and your budget, of course.

As a young childless couple, we chose district 10, close to Holland Village and about 2,5€ cabfare from Downtown. We pay S$2100 for a three bedroom 1700 square feet apt with all facilities (pool, squash, tennis and gym) - and we are very happy about it.

good luck with househunting; beware of agents and landlords as they are NEVER as nice as they seem!!

It is true that there may be some black sheeps amongst the agents and/or landlords. You can't deny there is good ones around too ....

Some are good I'm sure. But honestly, I used to work in real estate in Scandinavia, and the standards and morale here is REALLY something different!

My advice is to NEVER use an agent that you didnt get recommended from collegues/friends etc - and to get someone who has lived here for a while to read through everything before you sign.

Watch out for yourself, thats all.

This is a sensitive issue. We will always try to resolve the matter rather than delete the post and forget about it.
