Staying Idle for a week between jobs is legal?

Hi,
I am on S pass presently and my present employment will end on Jan 2nd,2013.

My next employment date which is supposed to start the next day got postponed for a week.So,I will be joining my new company on Jan 9th.(I have my EP in principle approval letter for the new employer)

As my present employer will be cancelling my S pass up on my exit with their company(on Jan2nd),Is it legal for me to stay with out employment for a week(Jan 3rd to Jan 8th)?What are the maximum allowed days one is allowed to stay with out employment between jobs.

Please let me know.Thanks in advance.

You get standard issue 30-day (?) pass upon cancellation of your current pass. http://www.mom.gov.sg/foreign-manpower/ ... ation.aspx

Staying idle in between jobs is is ok for any amount of time, provided you have a visa here and your in principle approval letter is that visa. Just make sure you get your new pass before the iPa expires.

Can I please know what is IPA? My S pass is valid until June 2013 and they will be cancelling the same on my last working day i.e Jan2nd. and my joining date in the new company is Jan 9th.

Ipa is the in principle approval letter for your work pass from your new company.
