I've just discovered part of the answer actually. A lot of former soviet block people work and study at MDIS.

Thanks, OSOD, I also don't like Credit Suisse. Will tell my Russian co-worker (VP in there) that what he is doing is shady. Few of my friends from Barclays, Citi and SCB also need to know that what they are doing is not shady only if OSOD is doing it instead of them.
I have yet to find a single Russian or Ukrainian who is in a shady business in SG (in Seoul, for example, there are thousands of illegals like this, but "western" Caucasian public is not as bright there as well - lots of English teachers who couldn't find job according to their education at home, marines etc).
OSOD, where the hell are you hanging out all the time to attract so many prostitutes and shady Russian-Ukrainians? For a variety, have you tried going somewhere... to library, maybe?

Dunno anybody from there... I'm just a shady guy from former USSR. OSOD, I see, you have a rare talent to shit on people's dignity without realizing it.

I only know a few Russians personally here. One is a shady business guy doing shady deals with money in Malaysia. Unfortunately he has introduced me to some of his friends who are no better and you know the Russians opinions of Ukrainians, Uzbeks etc.... is a bit colored. The other problem of course is you see a lot of dubious people in Thailand as well... (who might be former soviets - certainly they read and write Cryllic). My other Russian experiene has been in OT (honestly I don't go there much at all - once a year) - where my ex boss (a former drug detective from HK) was convinced the bar was owned by Russian or Albanian mafia....
There are shady Australians in certain parts of the world as well. It's an interesting concept - where do the shady characters from a country naturally congregate when they are not at home? It would make an interesting map. Another example is Israelis - a lot of Israelis who are runnning away from their NS apparently go to live in a small town somewhere in India (maybe near Goa).

Actually I learnt this from my vk.com profile..... and I am not shitting on you.
Many years ago I hired a guy called 'Sergei' - he was a very bright Ukrainian EE in Australia. I learnt a little bit about how not to work with Ukrainians...

That is exactly what I am talking about and is your own personal problem.

We do feel different, very little though - we are all from one big already non-existing country.

We are not in Thailand. No need to add more arguments on top of that.

Thank you very much. Where is the nearest anthropology faculty? NUS? Will need to go there urgently and inform them that there are new subspecies in human kind - very different from other humans and absolutely identical between themselves... need to be named, I guess, Homo Ukrainius.
Crap... this guy cannot control his words at all. I'm just having fun already.

What an excellent thread. How I wish I wouldn't have missed it yesterday.
Yes OP, if you want a bar with working girls that tries to cater to a more upscale crowd (slightly nicer decor, cigar room, slightly better music), Brix is for you. I hear 'Love Seat' (in the Mariott right next to the Hyatt) is similar too.
From what I've been told, the girls are the same girls from Orchard Tower (they go back and forth), but will supposedly charge you more at Brix. The bouncers at Brix also supposedly keep the fugly ones out. I can't comment on the rates since I don't really know, but I thought in general there were less ugly girls at Brix. It's a nice place to take single male non-morally conservative visitors since there is less fear of entrapment for outraging modesty from gold-digging locals at the "normal" bars.
IMO of course.

Brix is full of hookers and the music is rubbish.
OT is full of hookers and the music is varying, although Ipanema has a fairly good band.
If you want hookers, then you will find them here, if you want to meet a life long companion, these places are unlikely to give you what you want (unless you want to meet an 'ex'-hooker...)
If you want to meet Russian/Ukrainian/Columbian people who aren't hookers, I expect that they don't congregate in this bar, the Russians I know certainly don't congregate here, unless trying to pick up hookers.
That's all I have to say on the matter, hope it helps.
Brix is a little less full-on than somewhere like the bars on Circular Road, where the women don't take no for an answer very easily.

There are also at least 8 Russian restaurants in Singapore
http://www.hungrygowhere.com/search-res ... ne=Russian
It's kind of surprising as only 3-5 years ago there was only one, at Arab St. Some owners/staff must be Russian. Never have eaten out in any of these places so can not confirm neither food nor nationality.
