Help needed on Salary and Job

Post by ntr9477 » Mon, 17 Dec 2012 1:02 pm

Hi All,

I got an offer from a Singapore IT firm, 4500 S$/month with 1 yr Extendable Contract. Im married and got 2 kids. Initially I am planning to move alone and then depends on the situation wanted to bring my family. Could you please guide me on the salary part? My wife is also employed in IT field and what are the chances that she will also get a job in IT as per current market trend.

Please share your thoughts.

Hi, when you say "guide you on the salary part", do you mean:

Is this a fair salary for the role I've been offered?
What includions should I negotiate as part of an expat package?
Will this cover my costs of living?
Something else?

Probably need a bit more info to be able to help you properly. If you get a minute, give a few more details.

Sorry for being not clear on the question. I wanted to know about the cost of living in both scenarios when I stay alone and if I bring my family.

Thanks,

Although it's not always about the offer, the bigger milestone is whether you can get the permit to work in Singapore or not. Your current salary is "something in the middle". You may get the pass, but 4500S$ for a family is hard, especially for the education (you have 2 kids, and you'll be surprised to see the bill later).

Let's say:
1000-1500S$ for rent (HDB, not condo).
1000S$ for groceries, transport, etc (tight budget mode = on).
2000-2500S$ for education? I can't comment on this.

So If I come alone It looks like a good offer.. Also my wife is in IT and hope I can bring her at some time in future and search for a job there...

It won't harm you to take a look at some other posts. Cherry picking is on the loose in SG, since nationality and/or race play a crucial part.

Where do you still find HDBs for under S$1500/month???
I would budget at least S$2000/month to find a place that is not a dump and in a location that is half considerable!
Sublet rooms (in case the OP comes alone) cost S$800-1500/month.

I knew someone who got 1500S$ rent in HDB, which is far from MRT and hawker, and half considerable :P
