Liver Health

Post by annietso » Thu, 13 Dec 2012 7:18 pm

Hi all,

Looking for a good liver supplement I can buy in Singapore. The sooner the better cause holiday season is almost upon me, yikes. Here come the drinks and food. I'm a health freak and my liver will definitely suffer seasonal damage. I heard (..) was really popular but I'm not sure where to purchase it. Does anyone know?
Thanks : )

If you were really a health freak, you wouldn't put that stuff in your body in the first place, thereby not needing a good liver supplement.

1. Liver supplements can only help by aiding the liver functions and production of liver cells. It cannot undo damages (to be specific, liver cirrhosis) done by drugs, alcohol and other form of 'poisons'. So that won't do for your holiday season gluttony. :(

2. You really shouldn't be putting anything like that AT ALL if you are a real health freak. Moderation is the key, really.

OP sounds like old people who have diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol who gorge on food and when their children call them out citing their conditoin, they will just quip, "no matter; there's medicine for that anyway."

Then, when they're complaining of dizziness, shortness of breath or are in the hospital, will complain loudly of their medical condition.

Milk Thistle is good for the liver.

Drink plenty of water and eat lots of veg and fruit.

Exercise and a good healthy lifestyle helps in general, so worth doing all year round!

A few easy-to-get in Singapore (without prescription)...

Liv52 (Mustafa) - made of some plants... effectiveness scientifically NOT proven.

Essentiale (everywhere) - just phospholipides. They say there were cases when this thing taken via intravenous path cured liver cerrosis in 2 weeks (although I suspect it is a lie for advertisement purposes).

Lecithin - again phospholipides. Do not buy it in GNC or any other sport supplements shop EVER! Go to Fair Price - 500 g will cost ard SGD 12 (10-20 times cheaper than in supplement shops). 10 g / day (2 teaspoons) is enough for everybody.

Some other things for liver you can Google, but NOTHING will be effective for holiday season, all of them give mild physiological effect when taken for a couple of months at least, and will not be effective at all if your liver is already healthy enough.

Both of my BiLs have found the limits. Both have Cirrhosis of the Liver. One is dead (earlier this year) and the other, well, I doubt he's got too much time left either.
