Chatsworth East or Orchard ?

Post by rajivv » Wed, 12 Dec 2012 10:16 am

Hi,

My family will be moving in April to Sg and our daughter will be going to Grade 5 .
We are confused between Chatsworth East and Orchard.
Liked both schools and our daughter is in a IB right now also , we thought of putting her in East campus for one year since its smaller and will be easier to break in being a new country etc and then she will have to move to Orchard anyways after that from Grade 6.
We were slightly confused if we should put her in the Orchard campus right from the start as an alternative.
Please can the forum give me suggestions.

Regards

Chatsworth East is a great small school and has a real personality, I would recommend letting her break in to the new envinronment with the first year there. She will be guaranteed a place in the Orchard Campus anyway and all her class will likely go too! However, the two schools are a fair distance appart, so depends on where you live!

Gordon Arnt is an excellent Principle in East Campus, really helped our kids settle in well, I'd recommend it very well.

Thanks for the reply was deciding on confirming next week for the East campus. We plan to stay in the east and when she moves to Orchard campus the commute will not be too much maybe 30 min tops which we are very used to now in Mumbai.

Sounds like you've considered the opportunity, the school bus/local bus systems will take more than 30 mins I guess, but, if you live near the MRT, the travel time will be shorter. Maybe look around Mountbatten station on the Circle Line, that would mean your daughter is within a short distance to East and when you move is able to quickly get to Orchard (change at Dhoby Ghaut, the school is next to the somerset station up Emerald Hill)

Good luck, you'll love Chatsworth East, it's a great school.

Hi, giving my opinion as a preschool teacher, I feel you should go for the Orchard one. Firstly, it's the teacher & the environment that makes the child settle down. Usually it takes about 2weeks, maybe even faster for a Grade 5. But for you to go to the east & later move to Orchard, there will be too much movement & having the child to adapt all over again. It may not be easy for him. And your family has to move again or travel a different direction.
If you move again, you have to adapt to the new surrounding & trouble of moving. It is best to stay very near the school. Less travelling time & save on transportation. It can be tiring to travel too. I love it when I stayed very near my house:) Life change!
Cheers.
Hi i'm a preschool teacher if you are interested to know more about the preschools & system in sg.
