just sms her ;) we live in a modern world, you know :D
Hehehe... I don't think you realise how tight I am ;)
Actually the question seems to resolve itself. She's not the kind of person to lie or misrepresent herself for convenience, and, MUIS would not have contacted her unless she had declared herself Muslim.

Presumably they would have picked up on her religion and mine from our ROM filing. But both of their letters were tossed in the bin without batting an eye. I remember reading them and was a little taken aback by their tone of 'presumed jurisdiction' over the affairs of a complete stranger. I also thought that younger or less worldy people would potentially find the wording intimidating.
SG is not as extreme as Malaysia or Indonesia. I won't be surprised since some people or institutions can't stand the "mixed" version of relationship.

Some institutions can't stand seeing their power diluted, and will go to unreasonable lengths to threaten, intimidate, and impose it.

But ultimately your life and how you choose to lead it has eff all to do with any 'institution'.

Most of my friends 1st of all would wrap their mothers-in-law... and to the river (or Bedok reservoir - whichever is closer)

I knew there was a final point (I'm being banned soon so I wanted to get this last one in).

The reason behind some of the tension in the system - or one of the reason - particularly with child access issues between a muslim parent and non muslim parent is partly due to history.

Wiki sums it up best;
*******
The Maria Hertogh riots or Nadrah riots, began on 11 December 1950 in Singapore after a court decided that a child who had been raised by Muslims should be returned to her biological Catholic parents. A protest by outraged Muslims escalated into a riot when images were published showing 13-year-old Maria Hertogh (or Bertha Hertogh) kneeling before a statue of the Virgin Mary. Rioting in Singapore lasted till noon on 13 December 1950. In total 18 people were killed and 173 injured. Many properties were also damaged.

Hertogh (also known as Nadrah) had been in the care of Aminah binte Mohamed before being returned to her biological Dutch Catholic parents.
