Health insurance for non working wife

Post by msanthosh2004 » Thu, 29 Nov 2012 3:14 pm

Hi All,

Recently my wife lost her job due to retrenchment. So we took dependant pass and she is not working currently. We are planning to take a break for 3 - 4 months at least as she got pregnant recentlyjavascript:emoticon(':in love:') ... My office doesn't give health insurance for my wife. So we plan to take insurance for her.

Could you guys suggest any insurance for her? Does any insurance cover maternity expenses? Request your help.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Santhosh :D :D

I found NTUC the best value for money when I searched a few years ago, but others are close.
No Singapore insurance covers pregnancy and child birth (not a sickness, but personal choice, in their eyes). For that you'd have to go for (much costlier) international health insurances.
Normal plans cover accidents, emergencies and hospitalization. Those that cover normal doctor visits are rare, but doctors are affordable here so just pay it yourself!

Additionally, most insurance policies, foreign or otherwise will not cover preexisting pregnancies. Usual is a 10 month waiting period before pregnancy cover activates.

Thanks a lot beppi & sms. That was quite helpful. I have called for an aviva and Prudential agents for this weekend. I will post more on my decision. For now this link looks interesting.
