Job fair in singapore.

Post by moltediego » Mon, 26 Nov 2012 10:19 pm

Hi,
I'm looking for a job in singapore because i'm looking for a new professional experience. I started to send my CV by internet but without success. so I decided to come in singapore to meet personally the recruit agencies. I found on internet these two events :

http://www.careerseries.com.sg/
JobsDB Career Expo

I would know if someone know these events and if there is a real possibility to meet job advisors to present myself in person.
let me know if you know other fairs in march.
Thank you at all :)

Save your money. Visiting Singapore in person will not increase your chances. For other countries the situation is different.

These job fairs are always only for Singaporean citizens and PRs. I've visited one last year (accompanying someone who was searching for jobs) and that's what I saw.

And job market for foreigners here in Singapore is in crunch. Try greener pastures elsewhere if you can. Otherwise, even if you're here, you won't live a peaceful life because every day you will worry whether tomorrow you will lose your job and forced to move out because of government's foreign labour policy change.

Unless you are a looking for a job as a fashion model, there is no reason to show up in front of your potential employer in person. Job in SG is searched online from your home only. If they are interested in you, they will find a way to contact you.

This is not true in my experience:
Singapore companies rarely, if ever, invite somebody for a job interview who is not physically present in Singapore.
I had much better results when I mentioned in my application that I will be in Singapore from XX to YY and would like to discuss the possibilities then. Of course it's even better if you have a Singapore address and (most importantly) phone number.
But, perhaps more relevant for the OP, headhunting agencies or job fairs are useless, so save your expense! (HR personnel aren't much better, though.)

Maybe it was, but due to recent regulations, like Sergei stated, visiting Singapore won't increase the chance unless the person has a very specific skill which is valuable to Singapore.
