Hi there,
i have just been offered a 6 month contract (which will hopefully go permanent) by a big Multi National, they said they were going to be able to provide me with a
Serviced Apartment but have just informed that it's for internal staff on secondment only. I have been told by friend's out here the most landlord's what you to rent for 18 - 24 months, clearly that would be too risky for me.
What option's do i have? there must be lot's or people out here who aren't on permanent contract's and i can't believe they're all living in hotel's!!

It'll be hard for you to find.
Legally, you're required to have a minimum of a six month lease. Shorter leases aren't allowed.
What kind of visa/WP/EP will you be on? You might want to just look for your own
Service Apartment. There are some in the Joo Chiat area (near Paya Lebar MRT) which are affordable and in decent area. Avoid anything you see that's really cheap (say under 2k a month) in Geylang - those are more for migrant labor and working girls.

I guess your option is to find a room to rent, rather than a whole unit for yourself.
