Hi Folks
Does anyone have advice on searching for a senior financial services role in SG? Perhaps written a few pointers?
I have more than 15 years Australian Commercial Banking experience in a specific area and have been gobsmacked as to how bad the recruitment game is here. The most pleasant thing I can say about many I have encountered other then for tiniest of minority of recruiters (two), they are nothing other than "key word searchers". Which begs the question, why even bother have a degree educated person in the role.
Some of the inane drivel I have in encountered in interviews has left me nothing other than gobsmacked and cheesed off. It would seem that many so called recruiters seem to have only minutest of cursory understanding of the capability set being considered. In areas which have considerable expertise they could at least do a few minutes Wikipedia search.
I recently got binned by an Investment Bank recruiter in my area of expertise, for which I am aware that I am doing some leading edge work (as I am part of an international network that discusses such expertise), without so much as an email or phone call. Do people here not want to actually build relationships that can be leveraged, or is just undertake single transactions?
As a person who has had many direct reports in various roles over the years and hence a periodic user of recruitment services, it worries me that local recruiters are so cavalier in their approach. It has left a bad taste in my mouth in honesty.
However, the 2 players who have been professional, stand out like beacons. I will simply direct business to them as a consequence if I can become established in a worthwhile role, which is proving to be quite a challenge.
