IT / Finance discussion gathering

Post by Brah » Tue, 20 Nov 2012 6:15 pm

Separate from this week's meetup, I was thinking to get the following together for a face-to-face discussion on things in the "foreign manpower tightening" thread. Of course anyone's welcome in case I missed anyone relevant to the conversation.

http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/ftopic ... c-120.html

As some of us are in IT and / or Finance it might get a bit specific, doesn't have to be though.

I'm just putting this out there to see if there's interest, and trying to avoid a massive coordination effort.

Red= coming this Friday , Blue = not

Is 9:30 pm on Friday late or just on time?

I think it's early enough to catch the majority of the event, and late enough where I'll be talking out my ass more than usual.

At least I'm not an angry drunk......

It depends what date. I can't make the gathering on the 23rd due to flying off for a rush trip.
Now I'm called PNGMK

It's very kind of you to think of me but sadly I'm not in-country right now.

But time marches on and in fact this week was the first time during our current posting that our return to SG was mentioned. So... I look forward to finally hooking up with you peeps sometime in '13.

Have fun! :)

Any chance that I won't recognize you when I'm there?

I'd come, depends when though. My schedule is an ever changing vortex of nagging and 6hr notice flights to China :D

Just ask any of the staff for Dave and I'll point you in the right direction

I think we can certainly touch on it, though the eagles thingy is more of a party atmosphere and by the time Friday night comes along, the last thing most of us will want to do is talk about work.....

My idea for this work-related one is to be more of a smaller, more focused almost roundtable / information-sharing kind of thing in a more subdued setting.

Not tired of discussing women only on Friday nights? Those who don't like may not join. I don't see any problem in talking about this.

As our Eagles gatherings are comprised of regulars of both genders, invited by the moderators, why would you think we would be discussing women? Let alone, only. :-|

That's a better format certainly as I think it's fair not to discuss work, work, work on a Friday night at a friends type gathering but the question would also be.......for what reason and for what possible outcome can our version of the 'National Conversation' be relevant?

Unless you get MoM, MoE, MAS etc. represented all it appears to be is a wingefest
