Excellent - travelling with them to Kolkata on Tuesday next week.

The problem with Air Asia is if you didn't pay to be able to reserve seats, they'd
really random select your seats even if you check in with a friend. Other airlines (at least Cebu Pacific) would get you adjacent seats on check-in even if you didn't pre-select them on booking. I hate Tiger as well; aside from them charging way more for surcharges and taxes compared to other airlines flying to the same airport, the flight attendants have the same customer service quality as the rest of the private industry in Singapore (re: they hate your guts).
Oh, I pay the extra $20-30 for those red seats in front. Maybe that's part of the reason I enjoy flying them so much

I wouldn't consider SilkAir budget so much as just regional. They're not any cheaper SQ when they both fly to the same destinations, and you're usually on a small plane (with less amenities)

Actually I've found booking though silkair website to be more expensive than booking on the SIA website for the same flight. Silk air is seriously overpriced in my opinion.

I think budget airlines are mostly fine if the trip is lesser than 4 hours. Jetstar was pretty ok imo, tiger was kinda bad. There is the new scoots airline. Anyone tried that before?

We flew 7 of us on the 4 & back on the 8 of January to Kerala, India on Tiger. We had no real complaints other than a late take off in Singapore of which we made up 30 of the 45 minutes enroute to Kerala. I'd fly with them again.
