Permanent Resident application

Post by andreasf » Mon, 29 Oct 2012 12:51 am

Hi all,

I've a few questions about permanent resident application. Hearsay things are getting tougher with the government having a stricter control now. my hubby wants to apply for permanent resident here. he has been working in Singapore for around 2 years, holding an ep pass, and holding a degree as well.

we have just gotten married last month, is it wiser for him to apply permanent resident under 1) spouse or 2) by his own merit ?

I am not convinced that we should apply under spouse because I've read somewhere the authorities will look into the number of years you are married. Also, comparing his company, I am not as 'competitive' as a sponsor given that I'm holding only a diploma and earning an average pay. However, people on the other side of the fence have said that, it will be easier since we are married so government will be happier to grant him the pr. I'm not sure.

Please advise if you have any helpful insight. I really hope to get his pr done before his company sends him off to other country. Thanks guys !

Unless you are both Chinese (and him a Malaysian Chinese or at worst an Indonesian Chinese, you are probably wasting your time. In fact until you have been married several years, I doubt seriously that your "husband" will get PR as it will look like a marriage of convenience if done on family ties.

On the other hand, if he's a mid-level P2 type EP holder, I wouldn't hold my breath if he's applying unless as noted above, he's Malaysian Chinese.

Don't want to spoil the party, but that's the way I see it, based on anecdotal evidence thus far this year.
