Is this a good offer?

Post by brad728 » Sat, 20 Oct 2012 6:17 pm

I have been offered a job in Singapore. The company is offering me 6000 SGD for rental coverage and 1800 SGD to cover the cost of a car. Can I get a nice 3 bedroom apartment and car for this?

That will get you a 3-Series BMW or C-Class benz, and an average to very nice condo, depending on the location.

I should clarify to say very nice condo in an average location, or an average condo in a rather nice (but not the best) locations.

As you are new here to Singapore, what, specifically, makes you say that?

What about insurance (medical and life), home leave flights, club memberships, income tax assistance, moving and removal costs, cost of living adjustments and of course your base salary? No point paying all the above if you're being paid peanuts.
Now I'm called PNGMK

club memberships
How many of us realistically expect "club memberships" or get them?

That came in around MD level in my ex-shop. But they tended to be families with children who might use it.

I wouldn't have wanted it, and would have preferred cash allowances or hard pay. Only benefit that might exist - if it's your thing - is employer using it's clout to get membership for employee who would have no chance of getting as an individual applicant?

edit/ typos.

Hi brad728, are you going to buy or rent? I guess you going to rent, since you won't know how long you will be here in Singapore. Aactually with $1,800 you are unable to get a 3 series and C class.

Do you know how long will you be here in singapore? If you are not sure or maybe you will only be here for less than 5 years. I suggest that you rent the cars instead.

For $1,800 and if you sign a 1 year or 2 years contract for the car rental, you may be able to get a 1 year old or New jap cars. A good BMW or Merc rental will be above $3,000.

Which leasing company offers a 3-series BMW or C Class benz for 1800 a month?
