Singapore Legal Drama with CNB guy
Singapore Legal Drama with CNB guy
So I was out of town for a week, and the CNB Bribery Sex scandal that was in the news almost every single day suddenly completely dropped off the radar. What happened? Is it normal for cases like this to suddenly go silent? I don't even see articles saying there is a break in the case, or it is being deliberated, etc...

Re: Singapore Legal Drama with CNB guy
I think the initial court hearings have ended and we are awaiting a judgement - could be wrong.zzm9980 wrote:So I was out of town for a week, and the CNB Bribery Sex scandal that was in the news almost every single day suddenly completely dropped off the radar. I agree, I don't see the big deal. The evidence I heard make it look like a slam dunk win for him. How long do the deliberations normally take? I just want to see this guy walk out like a hero.sensei_ wrote:dont get the big deal. a blowjob is a pretty common thing nowadays. why the big hoohah about it with this girl?
having said that, i wouldnt mind a gobbie from her. looks quite ok
And I would say she looked decidedly average-slightly above average. 6 out of 10.

Sexual services for commercial favors. She was not being prosecuted for the BJ - HE was being prosecuted for accepting sexual services in return for swinging deals towards her employer. A BJ is no longer illegal in Singapore if part of normal foreplay - which it appears to be.

I understand what it was about. The evidence presented seems to indicate a prior relationship existed before any deals took place, and testimony was given that his position would not really give him significant influence on contracts that large - they go to committees.offshoreoildude wrote:zzm9980 wrote:I agree, I don't see the big deal. it happens in singapore, and to a certain degree australia too. *imo* its what makes the world go round. i have to admit, i have given gifts in return for contracts. rolex watches, holiday, cruise, cookware for the partner, etc. all fair game in return for that elusive contract.

It is bribery, plain and simple. On a small scale, one to one, who cares? It is the person being bribed that also gets screwed.sensei_ wrote:i have to admit, i have given gifts in return for contracts. rolex watches, holiday, cruise, cookware for the partner, etc. all fair game in return for that elusive contract.
But public corruption needs to be nailed to the wall. Why are China's high speed rail tracks failing in 5 years? Because bribes allowed second rate contractors to win the job. Why do buildings slide down the hill in KL? Why do China's bridges collapse? Why does everything in Indonesia cost twice what it needs to and still not work?
I've been in government jobs where people attempted to bribe me. 6 percent of my annual salary. It's stupid, and if this fellow would ignore his fiduciary trust over a piece of ass, let them remove his balls.
Batter steps up to the plate, here's the pitch--
he's going, and what a jump he's got, he's trying
for third, here's the throw, it's in the dirt--
safe at third! Holy cow, stolen base!
He's taking a pretty big lead out there, almost
daring him to try and pick him off. The pitcher
glance over, winds up, and it's bunted, bunted
down the third base line, the suicide squeeze in on!
Here he comes, squeeze play, it's gonna be close,
here's the throw, there's the play at the plate,
holy cow, I think he's gonna make it!

given that their "friendship" was fostered prior to him becoming director of CNB, and that he had no (direct) say over how the funds should be used, and that the project in question was deemed necessary before he joined CNB, i think he's probably not the corrupt cop being portrayed by the PP.
IMO, he genuinely feels he wasn't behaving in a corrupt manner but he probably did reveal some confidential information as part of pillow talk with with his mistress/booty call.
i don't see why a former head of CID and CNB would knowingly be corrupt. especially as a PSC scholar (aka "the untouchables") he would have been schooled on what is acceptable and what is not.
