Going with parents for a vacation in Asia - where?

Post by flying_carpet » Mon, 15 Oct 2012 3:41 pm

I am thinking of bringing my parents for a vacation this year end. They've been to places like HK, Malaysia and Bangkok. I can't really think of any suitable places. They are not very active people (so no hiking / diving etc), and they like good food, nice shopping and sightseeing. They also prefer warm/slightly cool climates. Any ideas?

Taiwan then.

Hanoi, too, at the end of the year, when it is chilly instead of hot and humid.

Taiwan's a good idea actually. I am going to find out more about that.

Im not sure where you or your parents are from, but you can fly to Perth, Australia in 5 hours.. in perth you can get some lovely weather, day trips to wineries, shop and enjoy the laid back lifestyle.

Otherwise, if youre sticking to asia, bali is 2.5 hours away and you can get some beautiful private villas while being able to shop in nearby markets, relax and enjoy the local food.

Hope they enjoy their trip!!

Korea - esp in the cooler seasons. I second the Taiwan recommendation but if they can stomach the long ride I'd suggest the East Coast of Australia.
Now I'm called PNGMK

Korea or Japan is what I'd do for something different to what they've seen. Of course those are both relatively long flights (6.5-7.5 hours) if they're coming to Singapore first.

Taiwan sounds good. Hanoi is OK during the cooler weather, but be aware it tends to be very wet and grey at that time. If you do pick Hanoi, I'd look into also going to Sapa or Ha Long Bay, otherwise you might run out of things to do after 2-3 days.

As for Japan, I'm not even sure about the radiation level :-|

How about Bali? Ubud would be nice. It's fun and full of culture. We are going to Bali in Jan next year.

I second Bali, it's a beautiful place but you gotta take it slow, visit the villages, towns, immerse in the culture and food... no rush type vacation i.e.

North of Vietnam such as Hanoi and then Sapa and Ha Long Bay. Sapa is fantastic place. Weather will be very nice during that period of time. Hope you can enjoy over there ...
