I'm curious about this. Was the position that prestigious? I remember reading her job title and thinking it was some very fluffed mid-level i/c position that wasn't very meaningful.offshoreoildude wrote:I don't think she's a MC anymore but your point 1 and 2 are true. She REALLY should have known better. Of course now NTUC is quite rightly under the spotlight for having a non Sinkie in this position in the first place!revhappy wrote:Didn't know she was Malaysia born Australian. I think 2 things made the matters worse in her case.
1) she is in a prominent position in a gahmen organisation
2) she is a foreigner
At least she could go back to her country, imagine what choices a citizen will have, no place to hide.

Frankly I'm in agreement there. I believe they are blowing it up out of proportion for a reason. Another Papist object lesson?

Yes - explains why LHL weighed in. HOWEVER for posters deciding to engage in racist remarks - please remember the Malay race is constitutionally protected with specific clauses in Singapore. As LKY reminded parliament some years back, there is no right in the constitution to racial equality. So really her greatest of many mistakes was slagging the Malay race and not picking on some Master Degree Holders or ITT MBA grads.sundaymorningstaple wrote:Frankly I'm in agreement there. For those of your interested the constitution of Singapore is quite interesting and at times curious reading.

Facebook can be a double edge sword. In her own words.
"I've always been very blunt and vocal, but what I said had nothing to do with race. It was about the situation. At that time, I didn't think carefully about what I was saying because I was venting my frustrations," she said.
It was only at 10.30pm on Sunday that she realised she was becoming the talk of the town after her friends flooded her with phone calls about the unfolding drama online.
"I was just shocked. I totally didn't expect something like this to happen and when I saw the petition to get me fired, I was astonished at how far people would go to get back at somebody.
"I'm not very tech-savvy when it comes to Facebook, which is why my account wasn't private. I guess that's one of the reasons this happened."
"When I posted that comment on Facebook, I didn't think of myself as a representative of NTUC. I saw myself as someone who was home on the weekend complaining to her friends."

I find that FB has made itself increasing more complicated, towards it's own advertising ends and the peril of it's users. It's no more a user friendly site and deliberately hides and makes it difficult to share between friends.
In fact, you would think FB is run by the Singapore Gahmen as often as FB keeps moving their goalposts.......

I've never understood their prioritization system for post sharing on the wall either.sundaymorningstaple wrote:I find that FB has made itself increasing more complicated, towards it's own advertising ends and the peril of it's users. Effing Facebook. Each time they make changes to privacy policy, I lose my customised privacy settings to default mode and I have to start over again.
Tired of policing all those constant changes.
And the Timeline spreads your history wider than a gymnast's split.
Of course currently I've set the best settings possible. No communication with strangers, no profile view from strangers, zero presence in friend search, quarterly spring cleaning of friends list, etc.
If it wasn't for close friends and family members in far far away land, I'd have deleted Facebook long time ago. (Oh wait, I meant 'deactivate', there is no way you can delete an account).

Yes - I too only keep it because growing up as an MK in PNG, having a wife who is American and an Aussie family means we too are spread far and thin with friends and relatives. My wife doesn't have an account - she uses mine - I had to delete all the women I'd slept with who were on FB when we were married.the lynx wrote:Effing Facebook. Blimey, I misread that as Annabel Chongoffshoreoildude wrote: It seems Amy Cheong's infamy has spread as far as Australia.
