Just got offer in Singapore. Monthly pay over SGD11000, with degree and master and also professional qualification. The new employer applied the employment pass for me! It took 4 weeks and the employer told that I got S-pass approved.
I wonder why it is S-pass but not P-pass!
Please share if any idea! Any suggestion ? Help!

Quotas and ratios. They putting a short leash on foreigners. Other than that, you'll still be making waaay over what some P2 holders are making.

You meant MoM intentionally did that ???

Most likely because you agreed to have it (as an option) and as revhappy mentioned this gives in principle better control over the future lower skill hire of your company. I am pretty sure if you did not tick the S-box you would have been given P1.

Hi,
My 2 cents.... do a self assessment on MoM site
http://sat.mom.gov.sg/satservlet
S-Pass is given to people who do not quality for a EP. It could be due to the rating of your university or that you do not have ample experience tied to the job offer you just received.
One of my staff doesn't qualify for EP though his salary is well into P2 as his university is not among what MoM lists out.
I too landed up in Q1 pass as I was switching from operation role to business development. Later, on renewal, I got P2. So, nothing to worry...

In fact , my degree and master are also on the list of MoM
I am new to that employer, I don't know the status about the workforce too much
Just I know some new comers of similar level as me can get P-pass as well
I'm still working on engineering, but change from heading a civil/mechanical team to electrical team, I am not sure if this will be counted as not ample experience . However , my role is more on management rather than technical....
Possibly to ask my employer to appeal or re-application? Help!
I have plan to relocate my family and hope to see if can get PR in the future. I think the S-Pass will adversely affect my kid to get place in school and lengthen the time for PR

You cannot appeal for change of pass type. Its at the discretion of MoM to give any pass they like or not give it at all.
An appeal could possibly turn them off and they could actually cancel your pass altogether and send you packing

The point is different: he agreed to get S pass so what would be the ground of appeal?

Revhappy: are you sure of that ?
I know exactly three cases of people who got S Pass, and AFTER A YEAR, during renewal, the employer sent in a request to consider for EP, and two got it approved, and one was left on S Pass.

I think revhappy is referring to appealing the
current decision, not a future one upon renewal.
