Are workpermit holders allowed to travel on their own?

Well, there is this guy in my company who is on workpermit. He wants me to book a ticket for him flying out friday night and return on sunday night so that he can go see his family for a couple of days. I will only be doing this for him as a favour since I am on cordial terms with him. (I am not his boss/superior/manager etc).

Tiger airways says they don't have a problem if the credit card holder is not travelling. Airline issues aside, does anybody knows if this is allowed as per MOM rules? Can a workpermit holder travel on his own accord or does he need some kind of permissions etc ??

I will try calling up MOM helpline tomorrow but thought I might be able to pick a few brains here !!

i know house helps that get to go back home for their annual holidays... without their employers.

i'm guessing it's okay - kinda weird (and wrong) to be chaperoned by the employers, otherwise...

Sure WP's can travel. Just look on the back of the WP. Should say multiple entry visa on it somewhere. Remember, the hoard of Malaysians that swarm across the causeway like hornet on their bikes. All on WPs.
