Is PEP application independent of EP application?

Hi all,

I am a 27 year old guy with a Masters in Engineering from NTU (Not IT). My current EP is expiring in 3 months. I was thinking to apply for PEP, but was not sure if PEP's rejection would have any negative consequences on my EP application later when the HR decides to apply it, would it?

Do you guys think I have 'any' chance for PEP if I have 3.5 years of experience in Singapore with a masters degree from NTU? By the way I am currently on Q pass, (my job involves a lot of overseas travelling so Traveling allowances and overtime pay is paid, so basic pay tends to be low).

So what you all seniors suggest me, should I just forget about the PEP and ask the HR to apply for my EP renewal *fingers crossed*? Or should I try my luck with online PEP application before trying to get my EP renewed?

PEP qualifications are clearly spelled out on their website.

Foreign graduates from institutions of higher learning in Singapore
Foreign graduates from institutions of higher learning in Singapore with at least two years' working experience on a P or Q1 Pass. They should earn a fixed salary of at least $34,000 in the preceding year.

* The following groups of foreigners are not eligible for the PEP:

(i) foreigners who are issued with an Employment Pass under the Sponsorship scheme. Under this scheme, their direct employers are overseas companies which do not have a Singapore-registered office/business entity;

(ii) foreigners who are working or intending to work on a free-lance basis without any direct employers in Singapore;

(iii) foreigners who are listed as Sole Proprietors, Partners or Directors in a business/company registered with ACRA and are shareholders of that business/company.

(iv) foreigners working as journalists, editors, sub-editors and producers.

If you qualify under the above section then you should try.

@zzm9980: Thanks for the reply. Yes I have read that qualification criteria, and I fulfill all the requirements.

However in recent months its getting more and more difficult to get a PEP approved. The information I am trying to get hold of is, if my PEP gets rejected would it affect my EP renewal negatively? Your thoughts on this would be much apprecited.

So let me say it out aloud, NO! I am not from India Lolz !!

Either way, trying to drag this thread back to the topic; Should I or shouldn't I apply for PEP now? Whats the current news on PEPs getting approved? Any opinions ??

It seems it's tougher than it was a few years ago, but, they seem keen on the whole students getting work here thing, from what I've experienced, especially if you are adding value!

You sound like you may fit into the criteria and as others say, who knows if it affects EPs, but, it seems doubtful, it's your gamble to take mate.

Dooply sounds like a Pakistani surname. So the guesses weren't too much off the mark, afterall .

Mind you masters holders are not only limited to India, there are quite a few in the rest of the subcontinent as well

Also the rest: Enlighten me this, since when and why was my Masters / nationality became more important topic of conversation than the query I had come here with?

Ok When I searched for Dooply in google few muslim names turned up and couple of them had direct reference to Pakistan. I am from India and never heard of muslim surname Dooply there.

The way you have bolded out that you are not from India, clearly points that you are from Pakistan

Sorry to disappoint you, Dooply is a Burmese sirname, used by a caste belonging to Surtis Muslims !

Also, I don't even know now what am I defending here? I have nothing against Indians! As a matter of fact I made some excellent Indian friends during my studies in NTU. The most intelligent and socially active students in my class were definitely Indians.

I kinda have a feeling that afterall this forum isn't that friendly as it seemed from the window.
