http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory,[3]extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[4] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[5]
Pretty much your post to a T.

I have no intention of provoking anybody for an emotional response so I apologise if it came off that way.
I am honestly curious about people's personal experiences and was just hoping they'd share it in a matter-of-fact manner.
This increase in unprovoked hostility to foreigners among Singaporeans simply interests me. There's no need for the sarcasm, really.

Mate, there is a turd in every punch bowl... one worthless specimen says nothing about the population at large... and we have no idea what transpired prior to the tape, in any event.

You'll have to excuse our collective cynicism - we see posts like yours fairly regularly, and often they are put up either by lazy, third-rate 'journos' who are fishing for some copy that they can cut & paste into a story, or just by plain old trolls.
My view - I'm with SE - there are A-holes in all walks of life.
Be careful what you wish for

Between this and the molestation post that appeared an hour apart, it seems like some bored kid was reading the forums and decided to post a few appropriate trolls based on current hot threads.

The IP for this one clearly suggest a 'journo'.
For our molester, it is from NTU so looks like he is not really trolling but the other zzm hypothesis may be the correct one - it's a case of the industrial strength stupidity.

No doubt looking for a reaction so he can cut and paste it on to stomp for all the retards on there to start frothing at the mouth.
It never ceases to amaze me how bad the journalism is here. More amazing is that there appear to be some expat journalists here too. How crap must you have been in UK/US/Oz etc... to need to come to Singapore to continue to do it, it's like a graveyard for serious or thought-provoking journalism.

It's hard to be creative and investigative if your job just entails you to write what you've been told.
