Who could I contact to discuss and get advice on an employment situation? I’m british & have had quite a few issues with my employers here in Singapore, I have questions such as my rights to unfair dismissal as well as salary and contract questions, I’m really unsure of what my rights are and who I should contact to help and advise me on my situation…
The short and blunt answer is most likely there is no employment law for you, unless you make under S$2000/month (or S$4500/month if you're a manual laborer).
Every protection and requirement by both parties is spelled out in your contract. Any dispute refers to said contract. Your recourse is the normal legal remedies allowed in a contract dispute.
If you'd like to discuss your situation, we can give you collective advice based on it. Otherwise, you'll probably need to see a lawyer.
Depending on the wording it may be possible to go to the International Arbitration Commission in Singapore if it's a contract for services as opposed to labour. However, Singpore is a 'fire at will' country and unless the contract allows, there is no requirement in law for employees earning above a certain level to be paid dismissal funds, redundancy etc. It's a system set up deliberately to encourage employers to hire and fire as opposed to it's neighbours who have much tighter labour laws.
