NFC Tags/Stickers/Tiles

Post by nakatago » Wed, 19 Sep 2012 8:55 pm

I've seen some on ebay but maybe some out there know if they can be sourced locally at retail.

Background: Most people only think of mobile payments when someone mentions NFC but one of the more practical applications is automation (example: Samsung Tec Tiles). I got an NFC phone and a really powerful scripting engine app on it which I think has way more functionality and control than Samsung's above.

For example, an NFC tag on my bicycle while mounting my phone as my dashboard can set the screen brightness to a constant level, turn on GPS, launch maps, launch my tracking app, set auto-rotate and screen sleep off instead of me doing all that manually before going off riding.

Cheerio.

Sony gives them away with/ sells them for their Xperia line of Android phones. They call them "Xperia SmartTags."

http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/pro ... smarttags/

edit: Looks like they should work, they even advertise compatibility with Samsung and other models:
Compatibility – other brands
Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy Exhilirate, Samsung Galaxy SIII, HTC One X, LG Prada 3, Panasonic Eluga, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Nexus S

Note: To use SmartTags, you must have LiveWare™ manager installed in your smartphone. LiveWare™ manager is available for free download at Google
I'm guessing you don't *really* need that LiveWare app either.

Nope. Tasker's more than enough (best 8 bucks spent).

SmartTags look like they could be at least if not more expensive than Tec Tiles... :(

Well, they are Sony branded. What did you expect? The only thing that would make them more is if they had little white Apple logos on them ;)
