Is the airport horrendously busy on F1 weekend?

Post by Rani's » Wed, 12 Sep 2012 11:54 am

I'm considering travelling out of Singapore on Sunday 23rd September. Is it likely that the airport will be heaving with F1 visitors? If so, I'll avoid it.

The hotels appear to charge over-the-top prices during the weekend period for an 'F1 booking'. Not sure what that is.

It means gouge everybody for everything. 5 dollars for a 500ml plastic bottle of water. $300 rooms going for $850 a night with special for 3 nights of $2700. If you can escape this weekend, by all means do so as the screaming banshee wail of those engines can be heard in Toh Payoh.

Special $2,700, LOL. You've pretty much hit the nail on the head there. I've been asked (sorry, told) by the hotel where I'm staying to pay up-front for the period 21-23rd. On the hotel's quote, everything is referred to as "F1 Pricing". I asked them, what I am getting in my special "F1 Package" then?

I'm pretty fed up with them frankly, with their money grabbing ways, and blatant about it too. It used to be that hotels put service first, but now it seems the credit card is the real guest they want to look after. But I can't do much about it.

So maybe it's best to avoid the airport on Sunday 23rd and head back a day or two later. Can't bear crowds, esp. unruly ones.
