But what prospect do you have with systemic corruption, unless you participate in it? It would take quite a few young idealists to stay home and reach a critical mass that could possible affect some type of change. And when you have nagging relatives and some type of inherit cultural guilt complex (as mentioned above) to take care of them, those young idealists are less likely to sit around and try and change something.

The Philippines' best prospects need to pay the rent and put food on the table and Tto procreate and provide for the next generation and still provide for the previous generation.

There are those who still stay though but they usually are wealthy to begin with. Those who are not, though sacrifice personal happiness (and having families) in favor of the common good.

I wished it were as simple as that but it will take a complex and well coordinated effort from everyone. For now, we have to settle for a gradual yet glacial pace of a change.

I did some work in Taguig and Subic Bay years back and at one stretch it will last for about 6 months max.
MY POV is there are two groups of Pinoys
1. Chinese Pinoys
2. The local Pinoys

The first group controls 90% of the Philippines economy and they are wealthy and powerful
The second group is the one that does the hard yard
The politicians bickers too much on everything and anything and nothing for the people. This second group tends to lose out in the end
BTW LKY is born Indon, so NO, he does not hate Indonesians but certain group of Indon.

We use a sib contract assembly and test house in Philippines. Very nice people, reasonably efficient manufacturing process and quality is good.

However, we employ a UK ex pat for price negotiations with the component suppliers because, as has been said here, the Filipino's are just too nice.

If we left the negotation to the sub contractor the price of our product would increase significantly.

Was he really born in Indo?

mmmm no - from wiki

Lee Kuan Yew's grandfather was Lee Hoon Leong, born in Singapore in 1871 and a British subject. He was educated in English at Raffles Institution to standard V, which is equivalent to lower secondary school in Singapore today. Lee Hoon Leong then worked as a dispenser, an unqualified pharmacist, and later was the purser on a steamship of the Heap Eng Moh Shipping Line, then owned by Chinese businessman Oei Tiong Ham.[10]

While working as a purser, Lee Hoon Leong, age 26, he married 16-year-old Ko Liem Nio, in Semarang, Java, Indonesia.[11] It was an arranged marriage, as was then the custom. Both families were middle-class, and the bride and groom were both English-educated. Lee Hoon Leong's maternal grandfather owned the Katong market, a few rubber estates and houses at Orchard Road.[12] Lee Hoon Leong eventually became managing director of the Heap Eng Moh Steamship Company Ltd.[10]

You missed one line :)
Lee Chin Koon, also English-educated and a British subject, would marry Chua Jim Neo, who gave birth to Lee Kuan Yew in 1923, at 92 Kampong Java Road in Singapore.
I don't think the angry "true blue" netizens would ever let it go if LKY wasn't born in Singapore :D
