Getting my son to school - taxi share?

Post by Bina » Thu, 06 Sep 2012 6:00 pm

Hi
We moved to Singapore a month ago and enrolled our 4 year old at Eton House Orchard. We got an apartment at the Reflections development Keppel Bay (off Telok Blangah) next door to the Carribean thinking that travelwould be a breeze. The public transport route to the school indirect and has a long walk (for a 4 year old) at the other end. Are there any parents at Reflections or Caribbean who have kids at Eton Orchard or nearby who would be willing to taxi share to Orchard in the mornings or afternoons?

I did ask for a quote for the school bus but for a ten minute journey they wanted $2000+ a term! He would also be the first on and last off the bus adding an extra two hours to his school day which I think at his age is too much.

thanks
bina

Can you just buy a car and drive him yourself? Best decision we ever made here...having a car makes life so much easier in SG...it need.not cost you more than $25-27k for a basic, 6yr old vehicle.

You live at Keppel Bay, enroll in Eton House Orchard, but need to share fare on a 10 minute taxi ride? I must be missing something.

Snide remark by a 1st time poster removed - moderator

The person said from The Caribbean to Orchard with a long walk on the other end. If you knew Singapore you'd know The Carribean is by Harborfront and a 20 minute drive through town to Orchard, plus the walk that is too long for a kid.
Man, sad I missed the remark. :)

The OP said it was a 10 minute bus ride, so I went by that.

Hi Bina,

I really feel that $2K is way too much .
My suggestion would be chartered a taxi for 2 way for permanent ride.
It be very convenient.

It works for me.
Best Regards

I guess I must be getting older or even something worse but I don't see anything wrong with OP's question. Even if this is 10 min by bus (I guess a direct route) it's still probably a pretty long walk for a 4y old. She can afford the place they live now and the school, ok, but still why not to save some money on a cab? It will be probably at least $20 a day, $400 a month and her kid will have a companion for the trip.

$10 each way, I guess every penny counts! Have you thought of asking at the school, there may be mums there, it's fairly small.

Jimster, Where were your helpful comments huh?

Well I guess neither of us know Singapore then Jimster, since it is apparently 15 minutes. :)
