New comer don't expect too much from MOM.
New comer don't expect too much from MOM.
I just received the Approval In Principle from the new employer. Its a S-Pass hurray. I was hoping at least a Q-Pass but no.. just a S-Pass for this pig head as previous pass. Salary close to P1 can't even get a Q-Pass. AMAZING! Seems like the rules does narrowing up for the foreigners.
New comer do note that you shouldn't be expecting too much from Singapore. Stay away from here and go to Hong Kong or Shanghai.

Frankly, I'm not sure what the beef is about. You managed to get renewed, right? You didn't get your walking papers, right? What does it matter what flavour your pass is as long as you got one. For that you ought to be thankful.

Being Southeast Asian, I see several things at play:
* filial piety
* independence--you moved into a different country but you can't be away from your parents?!
* need the parents to help out with a young child
* you love your parents and you want them to be with you living a more comfortable life
* Singapore's magnitude's better than the home country
* Singapore's crowded enough as it already is
* Singapore's really not a place to grow really old in
* are some people so attached to their parents that they can't live far from them?
* not all 'old people' want to be with their offspring all the time
* some 'old people' can't stand being away from their offspring
Conclusions:
* Different strokes
* Singapore: their country, their rules

True. I'm moaning about what they said on the black and white web site don't translate to the end result even you do hit the spots. I guess is it really what everyone said discretion. This is turn in to a refugee camp.sundaymorningstaple wrote:Frankly, I'm not sure what the beef is about. You managed to get renewed, right? You didn't get your walking papers, right? You mentioned your results don't match what you see on their website. You might want to go back and actually read what it says, then.Leafable wrote: True. I'm moaning about what they said on the black and white web site don't translate to the end result even you do hit the spots.
To qualify, does not mean to be granted. It means if you don't have AT LEAST these basic requirements, they won't even accept the application for consideration. As to the level of your pass, well, I know a lot of S pass holders making close to 6K/month. The MOM reserves the right to issue any level pass it desires, regardless of your income level or education as long as the basics have been obtained for that level granted. But they are not obliged to issue a higher pass even though you may be qualified for it. As Saint mentioned, it's also a tool to control body counts here as well.To qualify for one of these EP, the applicants must meet these basic requirements:
Additionally, at this point, your race has little to do with it. It will play a big part should you, at some point, decide to apply for PR, however. Then it really won't make a difference which "C" you are unless it happens to be PRC.

wait, did I miss something...the lynx wrote:Holy--! 6.3K and only S Pass for 1 year? What does he do?lolipop99 wrote:this is nothing new, i have a friend who have master degree from NTU, earn 6.3k, he renewed his P2 pass and got a S Pass with only 1 year validity
6.3K Basic or .. with allowance et al ??

Oh, taking it on MOM to solve your gripes ? to the OP : as a foreigner, let me ask ... well, why would they go out of their way to make you happy, when their primary mandate is to serve Singaporeans ??
yes it is with allowance but monthly pay check is definitely >5k for sure because he has been approved with a credit card that strictly need 60k annual salary as a requirement. The problem maybe because his undergrad degree is by distance learning from Burma but he got a master degree from ntu taking part time so it is really a mistery what MOM look at to determine he is only qualified for an S Pass now. I was also shocked when he told me this, moreover his PEP application was rejected very fast
