How many months to get your first job offer in Singapore?

Post by cw1483 » Mon, 27 Aug 2012 9:58 am

I'm new to Singapore and seemed to think that my spouse is not alone in the difficulty in finding a job here.

How many months did it take you or your spouse to land the first job offer in Singapore?

Well I took virtually zero number of month because I already had it in my hand before I moved over. Just saying.

It is not easy to answer your question. It all depends on your/your spouse's industry and the demand for it. Being foreigner, the competition is there against the locals, especially for the typical jobs, like admin, accounts, sales, etc.

:-) I also moved with my other half and currently looking for a role. It seems to be a little slow at the moment due to the summer hols but hoping things will pick up in the next couple of weeks!

BoBo123, I'm afraid it has nothing to do with the summer hols.

It has everything to do with being a foreigner.

;-( in the meantime at least I have the treadmill in the condo! I'm expecting it to be tough but have put in a lot of ground work in terms of building a network before coming here and proactively mapping what's going on in the market that I'm looking in...

A year, from starting to look, to getting here.

It's a nightmare! also, be prepared for being asked "Why Singapore, what will you do here, will you bring famly, how long so you want to stay here etc." type questions.

It took me 30 years.
Most of that time, I wasn't looking.
That was a long time ago.
